Merry Inkin’ Christmas!

Ever since my husband showed me how to use acrylic artists ink with a calligraphy nib, I’ve been inking whatever I can. I’ve addressed a million wedding invitations. Okay, not a million, but close. I’ve added hand written messages to client’s artwork. And now, I’ve completed an ink project for my biggest fans, my parents!

They wanted TypeJar Studio to help them get their holiday greetings in order, so I didn’t hesitate to start brainstorming. They wanted something simple with a photo from the night of the recognition banquet at my dad’s work. And my dad specified the wording, in the most hilarious way: “I don’t want it to say none of that Happy Holidays business, either. I want it to say Merry Christmas.” Right on, Dad.

Just remember: On all of the down strokes, make the line nice and thick. On all of the upstrokes, go very lightly.

Sometimes, it takes a while to get the letters just right. I'll find myself writing many versions and then Photoshopping them together.

After I inked the snowflakes, I scanned them and then put them into illustrator.

Then, in Illustrator, I apply a tracing method that makes it look a bit stamped on the card.

Ready for the final project??? Drummer boy roll, please?? My parents loved it. I can’t wait to get one in the mail!
